Oh that is really nice! I think it depends.. i have a mini barn for my ducks(all Muscovy) it's big enough for me not only to stand up in with room left over.. but i could seriously put a chair inside it lol I wanted easy for me to clean(hence the height) and wanted plenty of room.. since my ducks are larger breeds.
My birds all free range so they spend the nights(sunset) in there... i have stall mats(rubber) and bed with shavings and at the moment have straw under a ledge i have for them since the hens do like to roost. I think it varies based on your climate and what you want to work with, some want/need more intense buildings others don't..
