I need advice for my baby. Her name is pearl and I hatched her 2 1/2 years ago making her 2 1/2 years of age. She's a buff duck. Anyways. She seem to be sleeping alot. She eats her food with no problems. Drinks well. Plays in her pool. She just seems to be sleeping more then normal. She will fall asleep standing up out of nowhere. I can't explain it really. Her poop is also blackish. She eats a lot of mud digging and stuff. If I walk away from her she will start screaming. But when i walk back over she will just start dozing off almost instantly. She's extremely tame. She use to live inside and sleep in the bed with me but I moved a year ago and so I had to put her outside. Yes she wore a dipper. Hope this makes sense.

She could be stressed from the major change in her life. I feel she is very stressed. Ducks are social animals, and she may think she is a human, and be very sad that she no longer lives with you.

Does she have other animal company? Is she safe?

She's been outside for over a year now. Yes she's with a male duck I hatched. At one time she was with 15 others till I moved. She just started this 2 weeks ago. She's very safe. I patrol her fence day and night really, stray cats/dogs have tried to be pushy, they now r.i.p. so yes I'd say she is more then safe. I feed her and her mate a handle full of Cheerios once every 2 weeks or so. I know that's not causing the poop issue. Hmmmm just can't seem to figure out what's it is. Unless there's nothing wrong. I don't want something to be wrong and me not catch it in time u know.

What does she eat besides the Cheerios?

Sometimes - not to scare you - this is how ducks act when they have egg yolk peritonitis. Can you get her to a vet?

I give her some lettuce every now and then. Other then that she eats her purina flock raiser.

My ducks with egg yolk peritonitis did not have yellow poop. Most likely, she may be a little run down, so I would give poultry vitamins with electrolytes and probiotics, give her some lukewarm bath time so I could watch her closely, and just keep an eye out. I look for swelling, off odors, any unexplained differences.

She's not laying right now. I guess I could try some raw apple cider. Think that might be good for her? If so, how much so I give her.
