Hi all, I’ve posted about these little guys before but this afternoon I’m trading my cockerels for 1 month old pullets so I wanted to get final opinions before I give them up. They’re really really special to me. These are the ones that haven’t crowed. The person I’m trading with thinks the white leghorn is a pullet.

The two BO's are pretty developed for 12 weeks, but BO's tend to develop early. They both look like cockerels, but if possible, I would wait another few weeks to see if any pointed saddle feathers start emerging.

I just saw that you said this afternoon. I would go ahead and trade both the BO's. Just in case.

The leghorn one is definately a pullet, white leghorns always have big combs :) The third orange one looks to be a pullet too, (but less sure of this one), the second orange one may be a pullet or may be a rooster. Do you have an existing roo and are they illegal where you are? Do you have small children? If the answer is no, no, and no, I would keep the one even if it is a roo, if the answers to these questions are yes's, would give it away now. If a mix of nos and yes's might hold on to the two orange ones and see how they turn out. Either way I would keep the white leghorn.

They aren’t legal where I live and when I had a rooster in my last group, my neighbor got upset so keeping them would be a little risky. The 2nd orange one is super super skittish so I never thought of her as a cockerel until I looked at her feathers. Though compared to the first orange one with the fancy tail feathers, she does have a redder comb. So those things have been tripping me up. Both the Buff Orpingtons are much less aggressive than my 4 other cockerels and the leghorn, but I think that’s just their nature.

Yes, Buff Orpingtons are generally less aggressive and more friendly and quite sweet :) Sorry that it's illegal to have roos in your area :( I would keep them for a while and see if they turn out to be roos, but that's if the person you're going to trade with would wait for you. I think the 2nd one is most likely to be a roo, so I would keep the first and the third if u have to do a trade now. Did your neighbor report you last time?

No, she just threatened reporting. Honestly, I think the law is silly and her yard is completely closed off so they don’t bother her except for the crowing. But whatever! Gotta keep the peace haha
