Need good excuse for DH

It's cheaper to get a really nice incubator and hatch out eggs than to purchase chicks...in the long run. That way if something were to kill my chickens I could just set more eggs.

Not really the total truth but maybe it would/could work?

"Look I posted these silkie crossed with everything mutts for sale on CL and all these people (2) answered wanting Silkie hens for the city for $20, what do you think of raising Silkies for sale?" "it can pay for all their feed!"

I always order/buy some and just tell my husband they would die if I did not bring them home. He knows after 16 years that is always my answer if it involves critters!!

While we're on the subject of husbands,

My DH and I have been trying to find ANYONE in MI, OH or IN with partridge cochin hens (standard). Apparently they are either very rare or no one wants to part with them. I haven't had luck posting in appropriate forums.

The cochin breeding is HIS idea and if he keeps up with his hobby, then he'll be more supportive of mine.

If anyone can help, it would be appreciated

Thank you (danke, since we've been speaking Deutsch off and on)

My husband bought a REAL Railroad Engine to restore while I was in graduate school...My bringing chickens home is no big deal in comparison...

I just went ahead and ordered some chicks and told DH after the fact. I wasn't about to send them back. Now he take treats out to them every day. I did the same thing a few months ago. I have so many people that want eggs so I ordered more chicks. Now he takes treats to them too. I figure he gets what he wants when he wants something and many times bought the items and then told me after the fact, so I did the same thing.

Tell your husband about all the strudels and other German delectables that you'll be baking with all those eggs!
