Our new silkie chick wasn’t walking well and on inspection her cord or something from her vent area was wrapped tightly around her leg and when she tried to straighten her leg it was pulling. I made the decision to clip the part on the front of her leg as it looked completely dried out anyway so I figured she wouldn’t be eating/drinking/pooping if it was internal organs. I clipped the fuzz away and freed her leg, being careful to leave the rest of the dried spot to fall off on its own. Fast forward a few days and I noticed she has barely grown at all in the week we’ve had her. She is much smaller than her sister. She’s 8 days old today. I added some hydrohen & sugar to her water and that did seem to perk her up. I sat with her a few times today, making sure she drank and she was definitely getting around better & being more steady when eating. She’s definitely pooping.
She is for sure the runt & The dried area hasn’t fallen off yet. I am using a salve around it but there hasn’t been any oozing or anything like that. She does seem to make more loud chirping than her sister and I haven’t heard her trilling like her sister.
EVERYTHING I read that sounds similar ends with a chick that doesn’t make it. Someone please tell me there is SOME hope! I’m pretty attached to them both and want to do everything I can. I had them on medicated starter but that seemed tougher on their digestion so I switched back to non-medicated.
They do also get a little ACV w/ mother in their water. They are warm but with a cooler area if they need it. They do both settle and sleep, it’s not constant chirping. I just don’t know what to think.
