Need hatch buddies for or close to the 18th!

Well, I have a second chick, but he's (he has big feet) dragging something bloody looking around with him. I don't know if he's going to make it.

He seems like he's getting weaker. It doesn't seem to be getting smaller either. Just dragging around leaving a bloody mess after him. I'm going to leave it alone as I think messing with it without having a clue what I'm doing would make things worse, but I'm not going to get high hopes about it. I'm wondering if it's because the hatch was a day early.

It's kind of a downer, but the first one looks good still.

My other two pips aren't getting bigger yet either.

Hi,

This s my first hatch using a home made bator! went into lockdown on tuesday, with 20 salmon Faverolle eggs, candled the day before lockdown and 18 looked good, 1 I wasn't so sure, it seemed smaller than the others and one had a 5mm bit that was rolling around the egg??? any idea what thats all about?? I left them in, and this morning when I woke up we have 2 eggs that have cracked!!!

The kids are so excited it was hard to get the oldest off to school! Me, can't leave the ncubator alone...think I'll spend the entire day staring at it!!

Good luck to all of you with chickes on the way

faverelle fab

have to ask, what is a 5mm? I know about that staring at the incubator thing. It's always fun. I've got until Fri. and keep looking, to see if I see an wriggling eggs. Not yet.

Bustermommy..I've had that happen where there is a lot of blood, and something hanging from it. It should get smaller. When things look like they are drying up, if it is still on, you can break away the smallest end, usually at the egg part, and then see if the rest will absorb. One time I put neosporin on it, then a bandaid so the others wouldn't bother it until it all went inside..worked! I hope it isn't still getting weaker. Maybe it's just tired from the hard work.

Good luck, let us know.

Mine went on lockdown today im not even excited about them hatching since its after the hatch is when their dying. So after this failed attempt im putting the incubator away.

Well I have four chicks now. The one with the bloody stuff seems to be doing okay now. He kept getting it stuck on stuff because it was still so gooey for so long.

Now, it's dried up more or less but it's stuck on his back. Noone is pecking at it though so I'm going to leave it alone till tomorrow when I take the chicks out to put them in the brooder. The other two eggs are pipped and have enlarged the hole, but are going slow. I don't want to take the chicks out till tomorrow because they're still not very fluffy and I really don't want to drop the humidity with two open eggs.

I do actually have a little more hope that the little goober guy might make it though.

Pandapaws, do you know why yours die after hatch?

I've got 6 now that have externally pipped, the first from this morning has enlarged the hole, but gee its slow going. they cheep at me when I talk to them and I can see them move through the cracks they've made! Very exciting!

Cynthia12: 5mm = 5 millimeter or half centimeter, I could see a blob this size moving freely around the egg when I candled them on monday, however this egg is one that has since pipped... so not sure what I was seeing...

how long do others' eggs generally take to hatch after external pip? should I expect to see chicks today? or not till tomorrow?

the suspense is killing me!!!

Oh it can take a while. Some can pip and zip before you know it, and some can take 24 hrs..or even longer. Sorry..

But, sounds like you will have some before you know it.
I am wondering if bustermommy could be right about seeing the eye when you candled. It shows up pretty clear if it's right up against the side of the egg close to you..kind of fun to see.
