Need hatch buddies for or close to the 18th!

Mine aren't due until tomorrow either. I'm watching for early pips. What I'm really excited about, is if one of the eggs that I put under my broody will hatch. It was in lock down, and yes, I opened the bator..gasp! I got the humidity up, and went ahead and put a wet wash cloth in too, since I could not keep the humidity up where I wanted it. I'm not too worried. Toooo woried. We'll see what happens, but oh man, it will be soo cute if this mama hen gets to have a baby. Will be my first experience to see this at my own home..last time..my grandmother's home, back in the 60's.

So sorry, Guinea.

My little goober chick is doing better. Fortunately, none of the other chicks have been pecking at his little fanny pack, maybe because it's now dried and is no longer red. I don't know how I'm going to get it off for him to go in the brooder since it's cold here today (at least so far) and I don't want him to get a chill. I figure he's fragile enough. Nobody's quite dry enough to move yet. I took the plug out late last night after the last chick hatched, but the humidity was still 70something this morning and they are still a little damp.

Congrats everybody!

Cynthia, you have a broody hen in an incubator with her egg? Or did I misunderstand? Or did you take it out of the bator to slip it under her? Inquiring minds want to know.

I want a broody hen so I don't have to use an incubator, but that hasn't happened yet. Hope I don't have to resort to getting a hen just for a broody (thoughts of silkies running through my head, sorta like sugarplums). I'm hoping at least one of my sussex will do the job when they're older. I have two light sussex already and I know they came from a broody family, but they're not mature yet (they are taking forever; I got them in the Spring). And now I have these six young hopefuls.

Silly girl..she's outside in her special made spot that my sweet hubby made for her. I sure hope it hatches. She's being so good, and fluffs up when I go in to check her water..I do have a heat lamp in the coop, cold here at nights! I'm hoping she can feel some movement, and she will stay on the egg..hasn't been broody all that long!

I LOVE your brooder! I just saved a pic to show my husband.

I'm jealous that you guys have babies already!!! Mine are due on the 19th and 22nd. I decided to move the first batch under my hen that's broody so I don't have to worry about the humidity for the second batch. Hope something hatches!!! I candleded a couple days ago and it looks like the one I had patched stopped growing about a week ago. I think about 9 of the 29 need tossed but I'm too scared I'll throw out one that is still good. Congrats to all who have chicks already!! Has anyone else noticed funny aircells? Have the eggs still hatched?

On the aircells, funny how? I did have four with displaced air cells. None of those hatched.

On a sad note, my little goober died this morning.

So I have 5 sussex chicks.

Obviously, I have mixed emotions. I'm trying to focus on the second one since I have a tendency toward depression. Okay, tendency is putting it mildly.

After all, I was afraid none of them would hatch since this was my first time. So,

The air cells in the eggs due to hatch the 19th are at the end of the egg and then go part way down one side... Pretty sure they are still alive. Just worried about them hatching. Sorry about your chick:hugs

Some of mine were like that. It didn't seem to cause a problem at all. I was a little worried too, but those were actually the first to hatch. They were also a teeny bit bigger than the ones that didn't go down the side (the air cells I mean, not the chicks).

I tried to take pictures, but my brooder is an aquarium and the glare just made it into a big blur. Five sussex and 2 EEs.

Thanks for the hug.
