That is super news!

Can you get her some meal worms?

-Kathy

I put three dried mealworms floating on top of the rice when I brought it out to her (that was roughly an hour and a half ago). Three are still there. The bowl of rice is sitting right next to the lettuce and she did look at it so she does know they are there.

Update day 14 evening.

Sorry for the update delay. I have a neurological condition and with this busy week I'm losing strength. I've spent a good deal of the day trying to rest as much as I can and still take care of Diamond.

Diamond is doing well and is rather spunky today. She is still rejecting regular food and treats but she did eat ALL approx. 1 cup of the iceberg lettuce I chopped up for her. That's a start.

She had fun today too. I placed a small bowl of grit near her lettuce in case she might want/need it. She decided that she wanted to empty the bowl and toss all the grit onto the ground instead... silly girl. She got a warm water bath. These past couple weeks she would only drink from or just sit in the bath. Today she was splashing, slapping her wings against the water, cleaning and preening like a normal bird taking a bath. What a wonderful site to see.

Diamond is also putting up more and more of a fuss when it comes to her tube feeding but we are still tubing food into her every four hours. Her poop is still pea green but looks a lot better. It's still runny but no longer watery and is a wee bit thicker than yesterday. That too is a big improvement.

That's all for today. Here's hoping tomorrow will continue to show promise.

The stresses over the past two weeks must be hammering your system. Diamond must be feeling a bit better if she is taking an interest in her appearance again

The antibiotic may help clear that green poop.

@Free Spirit your doing a wonderful work with Diamond , sounds like she is feeling better by all you have described. Maybe today she'll begin to eat on her own. I hope so and hope you can get some much needed rest too.

I let the birds out of the house and released Diamond from her confinement area. I put a bucket of regular food down and went in the house to watch her and prepare her wormer and baby food. She stuck her head in the bucket and appeared to be eating. Then she walked around, head back in the bucket, drank some water, back to the bucket, walked around, back to the bucket over and over. She showed a healthy interest in the feed bucket

( you know, the one she has been completely ignoring for two weeks). Now I'm kicking myself for not weighing it first. I gave her an hour to monitor her then remembered I needed to weigh her first. oops. Well I did go and weigh her anyway and she has gained a little and is now almost 5 lbs (she was a hair over 4 lbs a week ago before I started tubing).

I went out to tube her the wormer and baby food. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view as she has gotten pretty strong) she was completely uncooperative - but I still got the tube into her. In addition I find my strength has weakened so much that it was unable to push the plunger (even using my chin was near impossible). I managed to get the wormer and about 10ml of the baby food, but she started struggling so much that the best (and safest) thing to do was remove the tube.

I had some leftover baby formula from mixing it so I took it out there along with another cup of chopped lettuce (with a 5 meal worm garnish). She did try and at least taste the baby food and took a couple bites of the lettuce.

I gave her some fresh warm water (I've been changing it twice daily - once in the morning and once in the evening). She is still drinking plenty.

Her overnight poops are still green but looking much better. I've also refreshed the straw so now she is foraging through it probably looking for wheat seeds.

I'll give her some bath water in a little bit after it warms up outside - supposed to be in low to mid 70's today.

I'm hoping that this is a good sign

Another update to day 15.

I took the warm bath water out for her and saw that she pooped. It was very soft *but not runny* and a nice grass green color

Best news I've heard all week about Diamond, not so good news about you though.. Take care of yourself.

Great news again about her poop beginning to look better too. Funny how we can get so excited about their poop. lol

Good morning day 16:

She ate off and on of her pellets yesterday but only about a half cup of lettuce. Instead of just standing in her house looking out at the rest of the crew day after day, she was walking around quite a bit trying to forage in the straw. The texture of her poops are better and still no longer runny but very very soft. Imagine if you ran a bunch of salad greens through a juicer and took the separated pulp and spread it out about a 16th of an inch thick - just like that - moist, firm, but flat. It's the color of grass green. Probably from eating the lettuce

? Yes, Miss Lydia, it is funny how we get so excited about their poops, lol

.

Because she was eating on her own I opted out of tube feeding her yesterday (with exception of the wormer and the 10ml of formula that morning). Every time I thought that maybe I should I looked out at her and saw her nibbling at the pellets. I didn't want to disrupt that if she was showing such an interest.

I did not start the antibiotics. Instead I put a couple drops oil of oregano into her gallon of drinking water. She seems to actually like it. The reason why is that because she had not eaten in so long I'm concerned about the state of her liver and worry that starting antibiotics may cause damage (or further damage If there was any). I didn't want to risk it and decided on a more holistic approach.

Today I got smart. Before I let her out of confinement and into the house, I weighed out a new bucket of feed and will see how much she actually eats today. I did tube her another 15ml (again she got too wiggly to give more safely) along with the last dose of the wormer this morning. I gave her the left over formula in a dish with a few meal worms and a few pieces of chopped kale on top to make it interesting (also weighed). When I let her out she went right to the bucket of pellets and began eating.

Her behavior so far is the same as yesterday - Lively, trying to forage, bright eyed, preening.

She will still be separated from the rest of the flock for several more days at least so I can make sure she's improving and well enough to play in the yard again.
