I need some quick help!

We were out working in the yard at dusk. I started hearing really desperate mewling. There were two TINY kittens sitting on the side of the road, right outside the grass. They were tumbling toward the road. I didn't think first, ran over and grabbed them so no one would hit them.

We got them in a laundry basket and the man grabbed a flashlight to look them over. One has horribly gooped up eyes. The other looks perfectly healthy. I've had cats my whole life, and would estimate these are about 4 weeks old. They can walk, but not well. The one with the goopy eyes was quite aggressive after I put it down and started hissing and trying to bite every time I attempted to pick it up again to move it to a cage. The other was OK with being moved and actually pretty sweet.

I have one tiny scratch that drew blood. I can't even be sure it was from the kitten, since we were building something with plywood. I should add that I do have an anxiety disorder (this is a lovely combo) and am now worrying that I have everything from rabies to a zombie virus.

I don't think a little scratch is anything to worry about. I have rescued many-a-litters and it always seems at least one has something going on with either their eyes or respiratory system. If you are going to raise them, they still need some milk. I would suggest KMR replacement milk, try mixing it with a little bit of baby cereal. 4-5weeks was when we normally started weaning the babies off a bottle. Also, they should both be checked out by a vet, the one with goopy eyes will probably need antibiotics.

ETA: The little mean one will soon realize you are it's only food source, and will most likely calm down once he/she gets hungry enough.

Good luck! All our hand-raised cats are the nicest ones and are soooo people friendly.

Thanks! That's what the man keeps telling me - they're too little to be carrying anything, goopy eyes is a relatively normal occurrence in baby everythings, etc. Those dern anxiety disorders always get ya.

I'm a little worried that I was too reactive in grabbing them, and maybe mama is still around. On the other hand, they were past the grass and working their way into the road. They're still mewling for food, very loudly. We have KMR in the freezer (for the baby rabbits), but...I don't want cats (I've grown to dislike them as I've gotten older), but I couldn't just wait for them to become road kill.
