Need help ASAP please!

Hi,
It's over 24 hours, but it's only day 22. Could it be that he's just going to take longer. Shrink wrapped?? What is that? There are no more viable eggs in the bator, I have checked them all, and there are no signs of life. Just that one. It moves and peeps now and then but not as much. I don't know if it's in distress or needs more time. I prefer not to intervene if at all possible, but will if I have to. I'll give it a little more time and keep a close watch. I have the bator next to the brooder where I now have the chicks that hatched, so he can hear them, I'm hoping that helps. I might try the youtube video of hatching chicks to see if that works, I'll just turn up the volume, my computer is in the same room with the chicks and the bator. I'll keep you posted, thank you so much for your help and advice.

When the eggs has lost too much moisture and the air cell has gotten too big (a big reason they say not to open the bator during hatch and the reason humidity has to go up for hatch) the membrane will "shrink wrap" the chick making it impossible for the chick to move and peck himself out of the shell and he will suffocate.

Ok, well my daughter did open the bator, I believe she did it more than once while I wasn't looking. Should I try to help it hatch then? The thought of it suffocating in there is terrible!!!

I can't recommend opening an egg that hasn't pipped, but I can say this; When I eggtopsied my three that didn't hatch I found one had internally pipped but was shrink wrapped and died. I can honestly say if I had known it had internally pipped and had been over 24 hours and was getting weaker, I would have entered the egg, not saying it would have been the right decision, but it probabbly would have been the decision I would have made. I honestly have no idea how long after they internally pip they can live without externally pipping.

There is no good answer for this...all subjective. On one side there are no other eggs in the bator to harm...so hard to know if he is stuck or just needs more time or there is a genetic issue. Some chicks hatch real late too. Best of luck whatever you decide to do here...read through the assisted hatching guide if you decide to go that route...

She said she could hear it chirping over 24 hours ago, do you have any idea what the average is for how long a chick can live after internal pip without externally pipping?

Good morning,
Yes, it did hatch out, that night while we were sleeping. It's VERY weak, and small. It survived all day yesterday, and is still alive this morning, but is still weak, not sure this one will make it, but I'm hoping and praying. I've already gotten attached to it, I've been carrying it with me wrapped inside my shirt pocket. It can't walk too well. I've been giving it tiny bits of water, and baby bird food just to get something into it, I'm hoping I can build up it's strength enough to be able to put it with the other chicks. The other two that I had to assist are alive and well, running all over their box with the others. One was a little weak looking at first but I have them here next to me, and they're just fine, eating and drinking normally. I guess time will tell how it goes with my sickly one. Thanks everyone for all your help, you've all been wonderful. Hope you all have a blessed day.
