NEED HELP......ASAP (sick rooster, not mine) UPDATE as of 5/24

I am so ticked. I can not believe that she is not willing to "spend that much money on a chicken" (her words).

I know that the mites and lice and probley worms are his main problem. I should have took some pictures with my phone and then you guy's could see how bad he really is. I told her that he needed to be bathed, she said not in her tub that "I" could bath in under the water hose.......

give me a freakin break lady. I can not bath a sick chicken under a cold water hose...
I called the vet her in town, and he has something like Ivomec, but it is $45... and she is not gonna pay that. I don't have the funds or I would. She still does not have him in a separte pen either. So his hens are gonna get this and all the other's 2. She said that she wormed them about 2 weeks ago with Wazine17, now weither she did or not is a different story. Right now all the other's look pretty good. They are dirty, but look pretty good other wise.

Any body have any ideas why he wouldn't be opening his eyes?

he is not opening his eyes because he is VERY ill.
Wazine will only get one type of worm and does nothing for the external parasites.
I do not hold out much hope and :aww to you for caring but if she is being uncooperative then that is the end of the story I guess.

I am not holding out much hope either. I am such a wuss when it comes to animals and some may say well it's just a chicken, but a chicken has feelings to and she shouldn't have got them if she wasn't willing to take care of them.
I can't stand the thought of him just sitting there suffering, so if nothing else I will go and bath him and dust him and see if I can help a little. That's all I know to do untile I can come up with the med's that he needs.

Thanks.....

Not that I'm not for saving this poor roo... but if this is the kind of ownership he has to look forward too, even if he pulls through...well..............

Oh I agree totally. She really needed to do some "research" before she got into chickens. All she cares about is making money off the chicks.....

Hey Tiffany your mail box is full.

No it's fine no problem. I will box it up in a couple minutes and take to the p.o. I hope your friends birds make it out ok. Here is the website that I go by for the amounts. What I do is treat the bird and then treat them again in 7 to 10 days. I put it on the back of the neck near the shoulders. Then I treat them twice a year after that. This stuff is great and so easy to use.

Sorry, I cleared it out. Thankyou so much...

If he makes it through this I am gonna see if I can buy him from her. He is a gorgous Black Cochin alittle over a year old.

Barnyard, you are really sweet to take such good care of this poor roo. But if she's making $ off chicks then she isn't doing anyone a favor by taking poor care of her birds. IMO you should walk away. I know its harsh, but maybe if she loses the roo she'll start to take some responsibility for her birds.

By even visiting her you risk the biohazard to your own birds.

You're enabling her in a totally wrong way. I know it's for love of the animals but you may do more harm than good in the long run. She sounds like a self-centered careless person. I think you should put the roo down, turn and run like h3ll...
It's not like you don't have enough to do at your own home, right?

(and you know I'm not daying this to hurt your feeling, right?)

I know you are not trying to hurt my feelings......
you are right, I probley should just walk away, but........... I can't!
It is not in my heart to do that. I understand that I am taking a risk by going over there, but I make sure when I come home I take all the cloths, socks, and shoes off that I had on and clean up before I go tend to my own flock.
I am doing my best at teaching her the right way's to take care of her flock.
She has already lost a couple of rooster's to her "own" dog's so I really don't think she would care if she loses this one

There has been talk from her about getting rid of all her birds...... don't you know I am willing to help her find new home's for them......

Thanks you guy's for being here for me........

Ok

Then here's my next suggestion: Tell her you're willing to take responsibility of caring for the roo, including costs, if she gives him to you now. Get him out of there. If you think you want him already do NOT slave over him for HER and then pay her $ later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've already said the others look like they're doing okay. So take the roo and THEN walk away. If she's not willing to give you a dying roo.... well :thun
