So I’m a new duck mom and 2 things have happened, I believe both my duckling have a fever because they have a hot bill and feet, pant when it’s not hot, and sneeze. I don’t have any vets that can treat ducklings and I don’t have a lot of money. I’ve given them some infused water that has watermelon and cucumber for sugar and electrolytes. They love it but still may be dealing with the issue. Another thing, one of my ducks got hurt in her foot and has a red bump with what seems to be blood in her foot. I don’t know how to treat that and again, I don’t know any vets. Please help me 🙏🏽

Welcome to BYC.

Just a few questions, what's the temperature in their brooder, how old are they, what breed, what kind of bedding are you using, do you provide them with "head-deep" water?

Could you take a video of them panting, upload it a video platform like Youtube or Vimeo, and copy/paste the link here?

Would you also take a photo of the duckling's foot?

The temperature gauge broke the other day so I can’t tell you the specific temperature, they’re a week old Pekin and they get heaI used cedar wood mulch which I quickly changed once I found out it was cedar. They have sneezing fits but they don’t pant anymore. And as for the popped nerve I’ll post that

They’re a week old, Pekin and I feed then I medicated chick feed but I need to buy niacin.

If I remember correctly, ducklings/ducks should never be feed medicated feed as they eat lots of feed and can OD on the meds in it. I am not an expert by any means but I raised four ducklings two years ago and they are still doing well today.

DO NOT FEED MEDCIACTED FEED! And cedar is TOXIC to poultry! I would change the bedding immediately and get them off the medicated food! The CEDAR my be the sneezing problem and the mediated feed for the fever, but I don't know for sure. I don't want to shoot you down or anything but maybe doing more research would be helpful.

My pekin did the same thing when he was a baby. Turns out he just had feathers in his nose. 🙄 I was so afraid I was going to lose him to some crazy illness and all along he just could not breath in through his nose because he would sneeze everytime. So he panted. Do change the bedding and food and watch them closely. If they get worse you probably should try to find someone to look at them. Maybe another person in your area has experienced this before.
