i have a 12" x 10" chicken shed, and i want to make a door, that i can open & close with a rope,to let the Chickie's out during the day,and close the door at night.sort of like a dog door that you see at dog shelters,so the dog can come in and go out at its leisure.if someone has any ideas,or even pictures that would be great.I have to make it 100% predator proof, they will also have a 10'x10 enclosed run with top and wire, under 6" of sand.

I don't understand what the purpose of the rope would be? Otherwise, a door can be very simple. I just cut out a piece of the siding, and used 1" hinges and a small sliding lock to keep it closed, with one of those hook-and-eye setups to hold it open.

The purpose would be,when i open up the main doors,to go into the coop, they have a pen inside,so i can pull the rope ,etc. and have the door open for them, and clip it onto a hook on the inside of the shed,as i do have a nasty roo,so i don't like go nearing him too often.this way while i feed them i can keep him locked out in the run,or when i clean the coop.

Oh, now I get it! Can you post a pic of your coop - maybe that will give us some ideas?

You might just hook a rope to the to of a slide door on the inside and have a pulley above that runs along ceiling to a point where you can get to it easily. That way you wont even need to go in. A guy I talked to had his rigged to a winch, that opened at daylight with a sensor and a switch for when you wanted to change things up. Just a thought.
