Need help, chick got into fly tape

Didn't see this coming. One of my girls (13 weeks old)
saw flys on the tape and decided to do a trapeze trick
for free flys. Needless to say she wrapped herself in
sticky fly tape. We cut the tape off everywhere that it
was loose and used vegetable oil to release it from
her where it was stuck on. We found an abrasion like
injury to her skin about 3/4 inch diameter. She's
greased up now. She lost some feathers and fuzz but
she seemed very grateful and calm letting us take care of her. My sweet babies. Should I try to de-grease her or let it dust off and should I do anything with the abrasion? The fly tape is history. Won't let that happen again. Thanks for
any help. BTW, been lurking reading this forum for a long
time. Pity it took this to make me jump in too. Love it.

I'd put some antibiotic ointment on the abrasion.... and maybe just wipe her down with a wet washcloth to get some oil off... I'm not sure it'll all come off unless you use soap.... and I don't know if that's good for them or not.... unless someone else can tell us the proper way to clean oil off a chicken, I'd say just wipe her down and then let the rest come off as she cleans herself... good luck!

I think, if it had happened to one of my girls, they would likely dust bathe the oil off? She may look raggedy for a while, but since you used a food-grade product you could leave it on? If it gets really gross by the end of today or tomorrow you could give her a bath I suppose? I'd do it in the kitchen sink with some grease-cutting dish soap like Dawn.

People bathe their silkies all the time. If the abrasion isn't too deep you could give it a bath using baby shampoo. It would probably make her feel better in the long run.

You can use Dawn dish soap and bathe her but make sure you get it all rinsed off. They use Dawn to clean the wild birds that have been caught in oil spills. I would also put antibiotic ointment on the abrasion. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the welcomes and replys. She's doing
much better this evening. I watched her closely today (I
watch them that close everyday). She's less greasy looking
and it doesn't seem to bother her any at all. She did do a little dusting. Her injury looks ok but I put some miracle cream on it anyway, just in case. My chicks are going into their mansion for the night, so I need to go close up and do another head count.
