Need help-Coccidiosis?

I thought I would post an update on Yolkie. I started Corid last Thursday, not really sure that's what the problem was, especially given the fact that she's 7 years old. She showed improvement so I was encouraged. However, on Saturday she regressed back to the bright red tubular shaped stools with clear fluid along with it. She refused food and I didn't see her drink at all. She was in such bad shape that when I went out to the coop on Sunday morning, I was prepared to find her dead or close to it.

To my shock and delight, she was walking around the chicken yard, her comb was much brighter and she ate and drank. I was amazed. She's doing great. No more weird stools. As someone suggested, I did cut one open just because it was so bizarre looking but it just looked tissue-like.

I'm doing the 7 day Corid treatment just because she was so sick and will follow with supplements. I have both Rooster Booster Poultry Cell and Recover 911. I read that I should use both-does that sound right?

So glad Yolkie is feeling better. Her standard feed should provide what she needs, but you could add either one to her regiment. Here is a synopsis/comparison on both.

Rooster Booster and Rescue 911 are both poultry supplements but serve different purposes and are formulated for distinct needs.

  • Rooster Booster is a pelleted vitamin and mineral supplement designed for daily use. It supports overall health, growth, development, and egg production in poultry. It contains lysine, methionine, calcium, B-vitamins, and probiotics, and is typically used as a top-dress on feed. It is not intended for acute illness but rather for general wellness and vitality.
  • Rescue 911 is a liquid supplement formulated for distressed or sick chickens. It provides electrolytes, vitamins, and nutrients to help rehydrate and stabilize birds in crisis, such as those suffering from cold, dehydration, or illness. It is used as a short-term aid and is often administered via syringe or dropper to ensure proper intake.
Use Rooster Booster for daily health maintenance.
  • Use Rescue 911 for emergency or recovery support in sick or stressed birds.

The advice to use supplements after treatment with Corid is generally to boost thiamine, which can sometimes be lowered during treatment. So anything that has thiamine in it is appropriate. Having said that, most of the time there is not an issue and using regular feed is enough. Since the parasites can cause a lot of disruption or damage in the gut, probiotics can be helpful to restore balance to the gut. You can use chicken probiotics, an all species type like Probios, or even human ones if that's what you have.
Glad she's looking better, and hope it continues.
