need help.day old bobwhite quail dropping like flies

I got 50 day olds today. Have already lost 7. :(

they have feed, water, temp is good. they just keep dying.

They are in a wooden crate with stall dry and shavings (not cedar) feed is ground to a fine powder. they seem to be drinking water fine.
You could go "back to the basics";
- use some paper towels; you may need to change them several times a day.
- The shavings could be a problem; some natural oils of sorts that may be giving the birds respiratory issues.
- That dimmer that I linked in my previous post could be found in Lowes' lighting department. sure beats trying to adjust the lamp from 95 - 90 degrees next week (you may have to take the "shroud" off of the lamp, so becareful not to burn yourself when you are changing the water).
- plain tap water.
- make sure there is plenty of shaded areas for the chicks to move to if they get too hot (2Crows may have covered this).

I'm all out of ideas; I still feel like doo doo for not mentioning the water earlier.

here is a link to help check the accuracy of your thermometer (except for a digital one).

the losses have slowed, but not completly stopped. 1 today, 2 yesterday.

I try to keep a clean pen, lots of feed and fresh water.

Temp is 94.

They seem bright and and perky.

Definitely sounds like quail entititis. Ask your local feed store for something for it. It just happens with quail but It can wipe them all out. The supplier likely has it in his flock and feeds them a food grade medicated feed for his adults
