Trying to help a neighbor’s hen. They described it as possibly fly strike, saying they had seen maggots. I gave the hen a good epsom salts bath and cleaned things up. I found no maggots. What I did find is a gaping hole in her rear below her vent. The opening has some sort of structure in it that’s about the diameter of a ping pong ball, and is firm but somewhat squishy. Does not feel like an egg. I cleaned the area as best I could with diluted betadine. Your thoughts, ideas, and recommendations are appreciated.
