Maggots from Flystrike, or any maggot infestation, is best treated with 1% Ivermectin injectable. Soaking is good to get off the ones on the surface and anywhere the water can reach, but an abscess can be full of them and a water bath will do no good. Also, any freshly laid fly eggs will also not be affected by a bath, and there are little maggots to small to see or remove manually.
The std dosage for a chicken the size of a Buff Orpington is .1ml injected into the breast muscle. This will kill ever maggot, worm, and parasite in and on the chicken within 48 hours, most within 24.
Ivermectin is available without a license at most feed stores.
You can also put it in the chickens water, but be sure that this is all the water the chicken gets. 1-2ml in a bowl of water is sufficient, but will take longer.
