need help fast! getting new chick

My Buff has been broody for weeks and my wife decided she wants to get a chick for her. I assume I would need a small enclosure for the two but i am worried the feed store only has buffs that are a week and a half old. Is that too old and do i need to do anything special to bring broody mom and chick together. please help.

They dont have to be buff for the mother to except them .. I would reccomend getting them as young as possible though as some hens would just see a new chick as competition.. Also you need to stay with them when you introduce them to eachother to make sure she doesnt turn ont he baby...

I wouldn't risk introducing a baby chick to a broody. She probably needs to go through the process of hatching to feel like a mother and might consider the chick a threat to her (so far imaginary) eggs.
Raise the chicks yourself in a homemade brooder. Yes, I said chicks because one would get lonely by itself.

You could buy a few fertilized eggs to put under her. That would probably turn out better than an actual live chick. There are people on this site that sell eggs of whatever sort that you might want. I don't think it matters to the bird what they are as there are pictures here of hens that hatched out all sorts of chickens and ducks, as well. Probably someone in your area selling something you might want. It's always better to get a couple eggs more than you want chicks, as hatch rates are not usually 100%, and chickens are very social. One chick would be lonely.
