my grandmother passed away last week and left me her dog in her will. I really want to find out the breed and see if he would be fine with chickens. can anyone please help

IS the tail short? If so he could be a rat terrier. Is it long? If so he could be a chihuahua (has a very chi head). Also how much does he weigh? Have you any vet records you could access for his breed according to the vet and his medical history?

Dogs have to be trained to interact appropriately with chickens, so you will want to keep him on leash and teach him no chasing or biting, that chickens are his "pack."

However this is not a breed you could leave outside in the cold weather. He's an indoor dog.

So sorry about your grandmother, thanks for taking this sweetie in!

Well it looks like part rat terrier, or Jack Russell, and something with a pushed in nose like a Boston terrier, he looks old, must be hard for him to have lost your grandma, on you as well, sorry. He looks harmless.

I'd go for a jack russell / chihuahua cross

I have a Jack Russel chihuahua cross and that dog does not look like mine. That said, it's hard to tell what he is. Looks like a nice dog, though.

x 2. Maybe with a touch of Boston Terrier. Looks like an older dog who may or may not bother the chickens. This beloved house dog would most likely prefer her bed over chasing a chicken. Good of you to take her in.
