I am getting information together to get started with a poultry hobby. I raised pigeons years ago, but have not had any for years. I have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks and find that the members of the BYC are very knowledgable and very friendly. I am planning to cover my old greenhouse that is 48x15 with poultry wire. It connects to my barn that I am going to convert into a coop. I have been looking at the Jersey Giants as a breed I think I would like to have for pets, eggs and meat and I like the Seremas just for pets. Can they be kept together or should I partion my coop off? I also intend to get some pigeons and did not know if they can be kept with chickens. Any help I can get would be appreciated. I am going to the Delmarva poultry Show in March and I am hoping to meet some of you there.

I keep pigeons and chickens together...I run bantams though...the larger breeds of chickens might take a toll on your squab production unless you raise smaller breeds that can roost up higher...I likes big pigeons..some of whom refuse to nest in the boxes and neston the floor

I am looking at parlor rollers and american fantails. the rollers would probably be in small coops, but the fans would be in the general population

parlor rollers are a bad idea...the chickens think it is funny to freak them out...been there done that..mine are in little coops now as well...I have Idian fantails and they do okay...some of the chickens like to peck at their tails...with the way the americans hold their heads I cold see some issues....my lahores handle things very well...
