I have a hen that I'm quite sure has worms and is not doing well, so I need to work fast. Her friend recently died of the same thing. I have canine fenbendazole dewormer on hand. How much of this powder can I safely mix in 1/2 gallon of water to give her and the other chickens?

Normally we recommend the 10% fenbendazole for goats or horses. The dog wormer is 22% I believe, but check your label. The dosage of the 10% is 0.23 ml per pound of weight given for 5 consecutive days orally. That treats round, cecal, capillary, and gapeworms in chickens. If using it for 1 time and repeating it in 10 days, that will only treat round and cecal worms. My math is not that great, but you would use less than half the dose of 22%. Most wormers are thick and settle out, so be sure to shake the bottle well before drawing up the dose with a syringe.

You are right, it is 22.2%. So for my pea-sized brain, how do I know how much of this packet of powder to mix in how much water? It says "each packet treats 40 lbs". If my hen weighs 4 pounds, that would be 1/10 of my packet, but since it's essentially double the strength, it would then be 1/20 of the packet? Mixed with just enough water to get in a syringe to feed her? Thanks for the help!
