I just hatched some English Orpington chicks and I had assumed they would all be solid black because the dad is a black silver birchen (though from the pics im not positive she's right) and the mothers are solid chocolates but I have ended up with 3 that are brownish in color. One is bright brown and the other two are a darker brown. I messaged the lady I got them from and she said she has some buffs in that pen as well but she's almost positive I only got eggs from the chocolate girls. She's also not sure if her roo carries for chocolate as this is the first season she's using him. So now I have a couple questions:
1) What color do these chicks look to you?
2) How likely is it that these brown chicks chicks came from the buffs?
P.S.
My English Orpington chicks are in the brooder with a few Easter Eggers as well (the chicks that are yellow, blue, and black with dark brown face). Just an FYI so you don't get confused lol.

I would say the chances are high that you got buff crosses; however, if the male carries Chocolate, you could get chocolate chicks in both sexes.
