First off, I 'm new to chicken owning. I live in a suburban neighborhood and got silkies as I heard they were smaller and quieter than other chickens (not to mention super cute!). They are 5 months old this week and I was hoping I'd be able to tell their gender by now. But I still have no idea! One of them is most definitely a cockerel and looked like one from very early on. The others, however, have not been so kind as to let me know. So far only the obvious one has crowed although some of the others make louder gutteral sounds - especially early in the morning and before going to bed. But as I am new to chickens - I have no reference to which are "male" noises and which are just everyday chicken noises. I have read that the dominant male is often the only one that will crow which makes the identification even harder. The first picture is of my obvious cockerel - Mando. The rest are a mystery to me. Any help in this regard would be amazing! Thanks in advance!
