Need help? in Lehigh Acres, FL (unincorporated Lee County, Florida)

I would love to help..but as it is we live way out and don't really have any neighbors that I think would tell on us. So I don't want to draw attention to the fact that we have chickens.

This whole thing makes me so angry.

I looked on Leepa.org and most of Alva and Buckingham are zoned residential. So why are they allowed chickens?

My children would be heartbroken if we had to lose our chickens. We don't have dogs, the chickens are the same to my boys are dogs are to most people.

But the commissioners are being very stubborn on this issue and we need all the support we can get

Hi
I am fairly new to Lehigh and I would love to have a few chickens for eggs and insect control. Has any headway been made on this issue? Are there any meetings scheduled for the near future on this matter. Chickens cannot be any more of a nuisance than large parrots and other birds that people keep outside. In my neighborhood, there is someone that has more than one that can be heard blocks away.
I do not have money to help with this fight, but please let me know how I can be of help in another way. Who can I address letters to about this situation. How many people do you have that are interested in changing this law?
Sincerely,
June Scott

I live in Lehigh and wonder why there is such a problem with chickens. If you can have all sorts of other pets then why not a chicken? I can understand limiting how many you can have to two or three and requiring a coup that meets standards but do not understand why someone can have snakes, birds, pit bulls, etc, but not chickens. I would love to have a small coup and a few chickens to keep pests out of my yard and provide a fresh source of eggs. Strict rules and guidelines would be welcome since I do not want a neighbor creating a nuisance or health problem; but banning them altogether seems a bit harsh. It seems we could meet in the middle instead of this being all one sided. Maybe we should look to elect commissioners that support everyone and work to compromise instead of supporting one group.

So I found this while investigating the Chicken issue.I saw a lot of "violations" in North Fort Myers for backyard chickens.
