Need help? in Lehigh Acres, FL (unincorporated Lee County, Florida)

You are right, chickens DO make nice pets. We love our girls, but the issue of chickens as pets doesn't weigh in as heavily as the current economic situation. And let's face it, yeah we have these great "girls" as our pets, but they DO in turn provide us with fresh, healthy eggs to eat....and GREAT healthy fertilizer for our gardens...PLUS they are SUPERB free pest control technicians!!!

so to be completely honest, and to answer your question....they make MUCH BETTER pets than the family dog or cat that only give us HUGE vet bills and costly food that is pooped out and thrown away to go into our landfills..they do very little to eat bugs and when they do they throw up on the carpet and then we have to use some sort of harmful chemical to clean it up...I know I have two cats....I love them to pieces and they love me, but they dont give me eggs!!!! hahaha

Well, Frank Mann doesn't seem to be helping at all.............he said he would look at it and wants to see if more people really do want this!!!

Humm....when is re-election????

here's a new email acct I set up just for anyone to contact us regarding getting involoved with our cause, or have questions, or just want to support us.....

[email protected]

Mike from fox4 called me and said he asked the station to post Frank Mann's phone number on the news tonite to encourage people to call him!!!

All you chicken people need to email Mike Mason and thank him for all his hard work and persistence!!!

[email protected]

Thanks guys!!!

I sent this to Frank Mann and copied Brian Bigelow:

Dear Frank,

We have met many times and various Lehigh Acres functions and I wanted to take a moment to write regarding the chicken issue...I am in favor of changing any ordinances to accommodate back yard chickens...In fact raising chickens is a steadily growing movement in many rural as well as urban areas. I live in Lehigh Acres to have the freedoms from some of the stricter community guidelines. I am not in a deed restricted area and I have no rooster to annoy my neighbors. In fact they enjoy fresh eggs as well..After closing my business in Lehigh Acres ( Second Chances Christian Bookstore ) I live on a modest non profit sector income and am a single mom. I have a large garden and chickens ( 3 ) and I need them.
There are so many other problems here in our community to address-we are good people trying to make ends meet.

Great letter! Did you get my information on talking to Mike Mason at fox4 or Angeline at winktv? They really want to hear from more chicken people. And your story about being a single mom and doing your best to help your family is very relevent for this day and age>
Do you happen to know anyone in Brian Bigelow's district who have chickens... he happens to be really on board with this ..it would a shame for him not to hear from his own people...

The media is really helping us right now. We will be at Futral's this Saturday...hope you can come out for a bit...

Front page news today folks!
