I just spoke with Frank Mann's office and they have been receiving emails in their office. Mr. Mann will review them and right now an email is being sent to the next step...to the Director of Animal Control (Donna Ward) for review. If she passes it through then it goes to the County Manager and if they pass it through it will go to the County Attorney who will write it up.....THEN it has to be voted on and receive 3 out of the 5 votes at the Board of Comm.
So...with that said...we need to bombard ALL of the commissioners in ALL districts to get this changed. The commissioners need to hear from their own districts. I can help petition for the other districts, but they REALLY need to hear that their own people want this!
They will not let you speak at the public forum unless the issue is on the agenda. So, we need to get this on the agenda!!!
The woman I spoke with said this could take up to 3 months to get changed, if it doesnt get killed before it gets to the County Manager.
This fight has only just begun.
Right now, we need to bombard Donna Ward at [email protected] with emails and letters to get her on our side.
It needs to be reseasonable...just a reminder....they ARE dealing with a lot "cockfighting" issues and are cracking down hard in that area. But I believe that if they see we are simply looking to have the chickens (mainly hens) as companions and as a small source of healthy eggs for our families, I believe they will see it our way....
We need to also bombard the TV and newspapers!!! If they get a lot of calls and emails requesting this type of story...they will see it as a great way to sell their papers and have people watch!
If anyone knows of anyone else in the other districts who would be willing to start campaigning there...that would be helpful! We also need to get the feed stores on our side....as they will lose a great deal of business if they lose us "urban homesteaders"
If anyone has any other ideas or how we can go about maybe holding a "town meeting" please contact me:
[email protected]
PS...If we don't do this, we could all stand to lose our birds or be forced to live as criminals always watching our backs.....
I am willing to go forward with this, but I will be hitting a brick wall if I am doing it alone! Strength in numbers!!!!
Pass this info on to ALL the urban homesteaders/chicken people/ or even if they just love YOU and want to support you.......
