Need help new to the chicken world :)

Hey everyone I'm new to the chicken world but have found that I enjoy having chickens around. My question is what are some good breeds that are very friendly and that are good layers and where can I get some .... I'm a little confused with the hatchery websites and so many to pick from . I need friendly chickens for my little ones the ones I have now aren't great with my kids . Thank you

I love my Buff Orpingtons and Barred Rocks. They are very friendly and great layers.
They always greet me in the morning and enjoy being picked up by myself and the kids. They are usually available at local feed stores in the spring. You can call around and get on spring wait lists.

Ok thank you!!! I would also like to get some different colored eggs but not sure where to get those from

Easter Eggers (called Amaracauna or Amaricauna at hateries or at farm stores) often lay blue or green eggs. Marans or Welsummers lay darker eggs. Olive Eggers lay dark olive eggs but are really hard to find. I think the super friendly breeds of chickens don't tend to lay as well as the "production" layers. You might want to get one "pet" breed like a Cochin or an Orpington
