Need help persuading landlord!

I think it is looking nice. Remember to include that they eat weeds too, so not only will they keep insect pests away but persistent garden weeds too :)

I just wish I had the option of dealing with my landlord direct and not a management company where it take 3 phone calls to get one phone call back.

Thanks again Plucky Pullet - this helps a lot! I'm sorry you're dealing with a management situation, I know that's really frustrating, and if you're unlucky enough to have a lazy one, there's little you can do except just wait it out. Hopefully you'll get a good response - good luck!

I would change "farm" animal to pet and fertilize the grass to fertilize the grass and orchards. Don't forget to mention the mice . Good luck I really think it would be great for ur son.

You already have the rabbit cages....why not try rabbits instead? Quiet, don't need to be free ranged over the lawn, provide manure for the garden, will provide the responsibility and diversion your son needs, can reproduce very quickly and provide your family with healthy meats and I doubt your landlord would object much to your having some "pet" rabbits. Nor your neighbors.

Thanks BWKatz - I'm organizing and re-doing the letter so it's more cohesive, and have made those changes with emphasis on the mice. Good suggestion Beekissed, but I'd really rather have chickens for the eggs for now. In a year or so we should be able to buy our own house, and it will hopefully have enough room for chickens and some other critters, and we might try rabbits then

I agree that you should change the wording to reflect that the birds would be pets rather than farm animals. Specify how the feed will be kept to deter mice. And instead of making him do the legwork of going to your greenlady link, summarize it for him. It looks good so far, so good luck, and don't give up!

The birds will want to dust bathe, so you'll want to consider how you will save the lawn from this activity. You could pull the tractor over to a "sacrificial" part of a flower bed every day, or you could give them a litter box full of dirt (compacted or they'll just throw it out).

Good idea to summarize the information, but include the link, too. Citing references shows that you have made the effort to do your homework, and that what you say has more validity than just your own opinion.
