I use at least 3 seperate bins. One for the worms, one for the pupae and one for the beetles (breeding container). They will eat each other in different stages.
You can use many things for them to get moisture out of. Potatoes, carrots, grapes, apples, well just about anything moist or sweet (Make sure to take it out when it rots or is chewed up good). You can keep cycling batches of them once you get going.
You can feed them a wide range of foods. Search the net if you like everyone has there own methods they rave about. I usually just toss raisin bran, oatmeal, an assortment of ground seeds, ground bread, flour among other things in it. They will also eat nuts (It's kinda wasteful to feed them nuts you can eat but whatever).
