Hi,
I'm new to all of this like so many out there so I thought I'd ask for some opinions. My Black Australorp and Salmon Faverolle are 5 weeks old. The Australorp has feathered out quickly, isn't showing any pink in her comb but acts rooish- always standing tall.
My Faverolle also feathered out quick, has salmon colored feathers but has dark grey on her chest- could this be just bad hatchery coloring? Here are some photos of both. Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

The Black Australorp looks like a pullet.
I have no idea on the Faverolle, if it gets more black feathers -its a boy, if the feathers come in lighter- its a girl. Based on the comb, I say girl.

Thanks for the responses so far! I hope both turn out to be girls- otherwise we'll have to find a good home for who ever ends up being a roo. I'll watch the Faverolle closely and post an update in a few weeks!

The Faverolles is a pullet. The hatcheries have been producing some dismal looking Favs. The Australorp looks to be a pullet as well.

Thanks! I hope you're right- I've been reading about off colored hatchery stock so I hope that is the case here. Fingers are crossed

The only breed I have is Faverolles. I've seen the full spectrum of specimens, from awful hatchery stock to show stock. It's a pullet. A cockerel would have some comb development at this age and would have much more black feathering.

Yay! That makes me feel so much better- and my 4 year old son will be happy. He named her Sesame and she's his favorite! Thank you so much.
