Your EEs are female.

Please, please, PLEASE stop letting that roo perch on your shoulder. You're telling him directly that he's the alpha roo, and you're the subordinate. The boss chicken gets the highest perch. You are setting yourself up for heartbreak when that cockerel hits sexual maturity and decides to enforce the pecking order. The best thing to do with roosters is to leave them alone except for routine checks. No pets, no cuddles, no laptime, and absolutely no shoulder time. The hens all groom the rooster. When you pet that rooster, you're again telling him that you're subordinate. I know you like this rooster, so stop telling him he's the boss and be the boss yourself. Otherwise, you stand a very good chance of writing to BYC in a couple of months asking why your wonderful rooster just attacked you.

I would have to disagree with that post. I have raised MANY roosters, and I snuggle all of them. I only had one mean rooster, and thats the one that I didn't cuddle because he was raised with his broody mother. I have never had an experience where I put my rooster on my shoulder and he has turned out aggressive, and I have been raising chickens since I was 8.

All look like pullets though, pretty little gals too!

Post this on the Chicken Behaviors board, and see what results you get.

I answer 3-4 posts PER WEEK about people who cuddled their roosters and then they turned on them. This is simple bird psychology--the subordinate birds get the lower perches and groom the alpha. A rooster on your shoulder is also a good way to get an eye pecked.

Your EEs are females. ANd I am not going to I am not going to even try and guess what your Bo is because they can be tricky. Cute pic of you and your roo.

I agree with what you said about roosters. I havent raised chickens since I was 8 but have for a while now. I have only ever had one mean roo and I got him when He was an adult. I know the people I got him from were very mean to him. But is still a very good roo although agressive.and I still hold him even if he hates it lol, he will have to get over it and put up with it,

Thanks for the input everyone!!! I see there is some disagreement on the roo issue... I never really thot abt it 2 b honest, so def something 4 me 2 check out. I guess since we hatched these chicks we've kinda babied them. He (the Maran Roo) does have quite the strong peck and already will show some aggressive behavior at times toward other ppl. He is also the 'runt' of the group so i imagine his behavior may only become worse. Please check back tmw b/c I am posting pics of my othr 7 chicks!!

Thank u so much!

If you want some other opinions, you might search out Mrs. K and aoxa here on BYC. They have both had chickens and roosters for a long time, so you might want to PM them and ask their opinions, as well.

My only experience with a rooster was a silkie, so that could be different because they're not the typical rooster, but he was my baby.
He comes and sits on my lap whenever we're outside.
He knocks on the slider with his beak for me to come out.
He comes running over for me to pick him up and give him snuggles and kisses.
He has never been aggressive with anyone besides when my son had a few boys over in the yard who disobeyed my orders not to bother the chickens and kept chasing around the hens trying to pick them up. My roo didn't like that at all.
But mine could have just been the exception.

The first EE looks a little roo-ish to me because the coloring seems red versus the other, but could be the photo.
