Need Help!!! Sick quail?

I started noticing a little oddities with my quails' legs and so I gave them the vitamin/electrolyte water for a day or so and gave them a small pile (1/2 an egg) of hard boiled egg in the evenings and the morning for a couple days for extra protein. I am not sure if it was what fixed their shakiness or if they were fine to begin with but they have very happy strong legs now! plus, the chopped hardboiled egg is very easy to eat if your little guy seems to be having a hard time with the crumbles.

Don't you grind your crumbles up to cornmeal consistency feed your chicks for the first couple weeks or so?

I haven't seen a need to. For the first few weeks they just left all the bigger pieces (the chunks were varying sizes) and now they eat everything BUT the small pieces. They always had extra food in there so I was confident that they were eating as much as they liked and not going hungry b/c of larger pieces.

I know some people do but a lot of my feed appeared pre-ground. I had everything from dust to cornmeal and up to chunks a few mm across.

Edit: The leg thing was about a month ago, only a few days after I got my chicks from a friend. Like I said, I could have imagined it as there were other things I was concerned about with the little guys.

For coturnix? They don't need that, only buttons.

To the OP: quaillady had a problem with Manna Pro feeds a while back, she lost quite a few buttons and I believe some coturnix because the feed was 'bad'. I would suggest switching feeds. You can get the high-protein chick starter at TSC, it is 24% protein, which is fine for coturnix.

Honestly I think he did need his feed ground up. When I started wetting it a little to make a mash and then feeding it to him he started eating. He's now eating on his own(same feed) without me wetting it and is all better. He is up and running like normal. He has even escaped his tote a few times. lol. Found him under my bed after being gone today. Gonna have to put a top screen on. I can't believe he starved himself like that. There was small cornmeal like stuff in with the bigger stuff but he apparently wasnt eating any until I wet it. The other quail is fine on the feed and has never shown any signs of problems. Didnt have any of the electrolyte vitamin stuff then but I just bought some yesterday in case anything like this comes up again. I actually thought about giving him some now too since he's had a rough start. What do you all think? Should I or not? i will say after seeing that there have been problems with manna pro I think I will def. go buy something different just to be safe.
