Need Help! One of my male chick is getting swollen in hole neck and skull area. He is active and eating well. Can someone tell me name of the disease. Thanks in advance.

Hi @NaoRos :welcome

Do you know what breed he is supposed to be?

@duluthralphie may be able to help here, I am no breed expert at all, but I am guessing this may be a Crested Cream Legbar or something similar that will have a crest.

Your main question is about the "swelling" of the head are you asking about how his head feathers are laying? To me, it's just the way he is made since (I think) he will have a "crest" of feathers.

It does look like he may be suffering from being plucked at a little, I see a couple of red spots where the pin feathers have been pulled out. Having enough space for chicks to move around and get away from each other helps with that. If you wish, you can apply a dab of BluKote to hid the redness on the chest and the back of the neck.

If it is subcutaneous emphysema (leaking air sac) and he is fine otherwise, I would not do anything for it. I have seen it once in a chick and this chick was clicking every time she breathed, and was in severe distress. Hers covered her whole side, and I deflated it several times. She recovered.

No clicking when he breathe. He is well after deflating by syringe with needle. As before he is active.
