when do ducks first walk, eat and drink. need help urgently chicks have just hatched. also how long should i keep them in the incubator for.

I am not a hatcher, but I have read that they need several hours to rest, and to keep them in the incubator till they fluff up.

I tend to leave the ducklings in the incubator until they have dried out and fluffed up UNLESS they are super active and are climbing over and moving the other eggs around.

That tends to be rare, as hatching is a tiring endeavor.

When you remove them, bring them to the brooder, dip their bill in the water and put them down. They should be able to walk around right away, though it's mostly in fits and starts. (Think bambi when he first stands up. They're like that for the first day or so.)

Make sure they have access to food, they likely won't eat it right away, but keep showing them where it is and they'll eat when they're ready.
