Need help! vents on a coop...

You should be able to open those doors, run a fan on them and either install a mister or mist them yourself and keep them cool.

Yes the doors open, but, but my problem is I keep it locked up where I live because its my storage shed too and keep other stuff in it. If it stayed wide open id get stuff stolen....

Thats where im in a pickle and why I was thinking about installing some kind of electric fans to blow in air and suck air out, or a fan to blow in air and let the air just get pushed out of the top vents... not sure what to do. I was trying to avoid some major major work...

Will take ya 15-30 mins.

I found some pictures... I think they make pre molded tin vents that would just screw down right there on the ridge... so you may be onto something, no it doesnt seem too hard now that I saw a pic of those vents.

Quote: If you have to keep the doors closed all the time, in your heat, you will probably kill these birds. No amount of ventilation will keep the temps from rising into the 100's. You might need to install AC to keep it cool enough. I have a shed nearly identical to yours here on the property. And I have twice the venting that you do in it, and with the doors shut, it gets to 120 degrees inside on a 90 degree day outside.

I just spoke with the builder I got the shed from... I havent even looked, but they said the shed comes standard with a ridge vent already on it.... I just havent paid attention to see it. And certainly havent looked for it...

Cut a square out of the wall and frame it with 2x4's then put a roll open window.you can find the windows cheap or free on craigslist

Cut the ridge out with a circ saw, then install a ridge vent, I prefer cobra. Will do wonders.

Ok Rich and TwoCrows, I got home and checked out the shed... it DOES have a ridge vent. Problem is, when it was built they put the ply wood so close together at the ridge that there is hardly a gap up there, thus making it to where hot air cant even go through the vent... That is going to make a world of difference, and will be even easier and cheaper to get fixed! I just need to find a nut driver to fit the drill and get up there. Easy fix just cutting the wood out a bit at the ridge then screwing it back down! I still want to put a few more vents on it, but I am fairly certain with that working right its going to make a major difference.

I mean where I live, there are wild quail everywhere... So the heat doesnt kill em in the wild, they do get a breeze and shade though. these birds will have the shade, but not as much breeze...

Good to figure that one out at bit. Making progress!
