Hi. I'm very worried about my chickens. For some reason, they decided to stay outside most of the day in this terrible rain. They are all soaking wet but I'm especially worried about my main showgirl... I just got home from a 4h meeting and went to check on them and she is alone in a nest box. She does have a habit of sleeping in the boxes, but will she be okay? She doesn't seem to be shivering or anything, but is completely soaked... way worse than my other girls. I tried to clean her off with a towel but it didn't work out too well. We can't put a heat lamp out there because it's still down-pouring on us and my mom said it would be unsafe. Is there anything I can do? (bringing her inside the house is a HUGE no no in my family)

If she's not shivering, she's not cold
I am in New York, the temp was in the low 40s today and it rained all afternoon. All the chickens were out in it and got soaked. They've done this before. They will all be clean, fluffy and dry in the morning. Don't worry about it.

My chickens also go out into the rain/ storms. I now actually prefer it because I worry less about predators as much when the storms are that bad. They have never been sick and always come home safe. I'd say no worries! :D

Silkies and Showgirls do tend to be more sensitive to cold and rain than most breeds. Have you ever tried blow-drying your chickens? There might be a place outside, perhaps in a garage, that you could safely plug in a blow-dryer and warm up your little lady if she seems too cold or wet.

she isn’t really a “showgirl” she’s just a normal golden laced orpington who I take to my fair! but we don’t have a garage or anything... we just moved in
