Hi all,

I could use some guidance on the proper amount of baytril to inject. I have a 1.5 year old RIR hen with some respiratory crud. I have already tried tylan 50 and that hasn't helped. The vet label on the baytril box says to give 1cc every 12 hours. This was prescribed for a very very sick hen I used to have, so I just wonder if that dose would be too much for the current situation. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank ~ Hannah

I'm not sure what the correct dosage is, but I would guess if it was appropriate for another hen, then why not for this one. Hopefully someone else will come with more experience with this drug.

Hi Hannah,
I've had to use baytril inj in my kids before and 1 cc sounds like a lot to me. Do you know what concentration the baytril is...the small animal is 22.7 mg? It should be also based on the weight of the chicken. I could try to find out more info for you. would your vet that prescribed the baytril figure out a dose for you?
good luck

Hi jmason,

thanks for the reply. yes, it is the small animal concentration and 1cc 2x a day seems like alot to me too. the hen that i gave that dose to was very very sick. i've been through respiratory stuff before, and she was the sickest one i've ever dealt with. i'm surprised she made it as long as she did. as for my current patient, she is not nearly that bad. i probably could call my vet and get an answer tomorrow. i was just hoping somebody on here had some guidelines so i could give her a shot tonight. if i don't hear anything then i may just give her .5 cc. i don't think that would hurt anything for now.
