Hello, This is my first time posting but have been reading a lot in these forums for the last 5 months and love it! I am a first time chicken owner. My question is when I bought my girl London, she was sold as a Sapphire Olive Egger. Well...she is now 17 weeks old and began laying yesterday (my first girl to lay of my 7) I was really expecting to get a shade of green egg from her and also a large egg. Instead I got a small ( half the size of a large store boughten egg in a light brown cream color, Instead of green. The egg is about the size my guineas lay. Any ideas if she is really a Sapphire Olive egger....or what breed could she be? Thanks for your help.

She appears to be an Olive Egger to me. It is very common for pullet's first eggs to be small. They will get larger over time.

I'm not positive on egg color genetics, but if an OE is anything like an EE, colored eggs are not guaranteed. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will chime in on that.

She looks like she is an olive egger, she does have some barred rock markings though? I am still learning to tell breeds, but she defiantly has more marks then the images of olive eggs of have found. Here are egg colors though, the first is barred rock and the second is olive egger.

How positive are you that she’s the one that laid that egg?
Hi, Yesterday I caught her in my barn where they are not allowed. As I was chasing her out I noticed an egg in the corner under the barn steps. We hadn’t had any of our chickens lay eggs as of yet. At first I thought maybe one of my guineas got in the barn and layed egg as the egg looked identical to one of theirs. Although I’ve never seen a guinea in the barn either. Also yesterday she (London) was acting very strange going in and out of the coop all morning long. Usually once they are let out for the day they don’t return until its time for bed as they free range all day. This morning when I let them out of the coop I checked the egg boxes and there was one egg that looked exactly like the one we found in the barn yesterday.

Thank you for your reply

She looks just like my Olive Egger - and mine just laid her first greenish olive egg.
