We are planning on attaching our run to the coop soon with a chicken door, but need some ideas on the best way to go about this. A few questions would be:

How to make it predator proof?

Any advice from past experiences?

What should the dimensions be?

I know I have a lot of questions...maybe it is not as complicated as I think it is (still a newbie). Also, if you have any pictures of your door, that would be really helpful.

Thank you so much! :D

For a pop door, I like the guillotine style. Pull the rope and it opens, release the rope, it closes. If the bottom of the door goes down behind some sort of shield to prevent getting a fingerhold on it, it would be rather predator proof.

Many examples on YouTube as well as here.

I installed the vertical type door on mine with the D20 motor to open/close the door. It works just wonderful as I made it solar powered so it is worry free and fully automatic. It also has a locking unit because they free-range and predators have access to the door at night.

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful information! Here is our chicken door and pictures of how we made it. So glad to have it done...
