We recently put out chicks with our new chickens and they went through the pecking order as expected except for one. They pecked her head too much cause minor bleeding. We kept her away from them for a couple days while it healed once it was fine we put her back with the others late afternoon and everything seemed normal. The next day after them being awake for about an hour we find our mature chickens all in a corner pecking at something which we assumed was some bug until we heard squawks. We go in and find them ripping at our chickens back for just about no reason. We took her out and cleaned off the wound and found that aside from plucking all the feathers out, they had also ripped off the skin on that part of her back in a size just bigger than a quarter. We do not know what to do at this point she seems happy when she is away from the chicks and goes about her business like that wound on her back is not there. We are afraid if she heals and we reintroduce her they will tear her apart again.

Any advice is well received on what to do in this situation. Thanks in advance.

wow, the only thing I can think of is once she is healed give her a couple of friends away from the main flock for a while and then reintroduce her with friends that will hopefully have her back.

Sometimes integration doesn't go as smoothly as we hope. It would be a good idea, if you have room in your coop/run to place her next to the flock now so they can see her. Hopefully by the time she heals up you can start letting her have a supervised mingle.

It's always possible that the flock never accepts her for some reason. If you find that is the case, then you can try to re-home her, build another small coop/run for her and possibly have a couple of other chickens that get along with her or if you are inclined, have a meal.

While she is separated out, monitor her closely for any signs of illness and/or parasites.

We have her semi isolated in an old rabbit cage for now so that they can see each other without pecking at her. So far there aren't any signs of aggression directly towards her but only time will tell when she is healed enough to join the rest of the flock. Thank you for the advice by the way.
