Need Help With Colour Identification Please

Hi Everyone.

Here is an updated photo of my little Pekin Roo. I would be grateful for any and all opinions on what colours/patterns this little guy is showing... Younger pictures of him are earlier in the thread so you can see his development. He's becoming quite the handsome little devil! As previously explained.. his dad is known but his mom is not certain. So I'm guessing a wee bit on his genetic parentage :love

Hey Grey Farms :thumbsup
He is gorgeous isn't he! I made him suffer the indignity of me looking closely through his feathers the other night .. for which I'm not fully forgiven hehe. Those coloured feathers on his chest, there are two stripes of those, one down each side of his breast bone. Those feathers are a mixture of the black with scarab green and mottled (they look like they are trying to be millefleur - brown and black with white tip). What confuses me still is how he has such large patches of white. Is that because he only has one Silver Gene and so other colours are competing? Or is it some form of Columbian expression? Or is it the mottling?

I'd say its from the Columbian gene. Being that the white is confined to his chest. If it were from the mottling gene I would expect white to show on his back as well. Can you get any more colors and patterns in one bird? All he is missing is a buff feather lol.

I know right! I think I'll name him Picasso - like a gorgeous painting!

I'm afraid I don't sorry. But I recall as he matured his chest lost all that whiteness and the black/mottled feathers developed to cover all his chest. His back, rump, wings and tail all stayed much the same as seen in the above photos. He was still fiercely handsome but sadly we lost him to a hawk attack :barnie

I currently have his nephew as my breeding rooster. Let me introduce you to Rusty Rooster. He's a sebright/pekin cross who thinks he's just the most handsome rooster and is a complete sucker for cuddles lol. :woot
