Need help with eggbound Leghorn

It is much harder for them to expel an egg like that than a “real egg”.

Low calcium can also cause trembling.

Do you have anything at home right now you can give her?

When I was pregnant I had HORRIBLE heartburn and had tums ALL OVER the house!

And finally there is still a possibility that she’s got a shell gland or other reproductive problem or infection beginning.

All the more reason to watch her for a few days.

We have peppermint Tums.

Great! Flavor doesn’t matter.
She’ll have fresh breath!

Break one into little chunks and see if she’ll just eat it.
If not, crush and mix with something.
Yogurt is good because it has vitamin D in it.
Should I worry about bacteria in her oviduct? She was in a dirty coop. Idk how long she was bound.

My understanding of this situation is that it’s caused more by bacteria flourishing from within, because of egg matter decomposing within the hens reproductive tract, not so much from bacteria creeping up “into her” from the outer world but I’d like others to chime in on this.

That dark is a dark purple.
She has some fight again. Still kinda floppy/lethargic but she is talking a little and can stand as opposed to before she laid the egg.

Can I give her a Chery Pepto Bismal tablet instead? I can't find our Tums.

Pepto Bismol is not calcium, but another totally different drug —milk of bismuth an antidiarrhea med.) An easy way to give calcium plus vitamin D is to simply toss an egg (cooked or raw, shell and all) into a food processor, and feed it to your chicken. Egg shell is pure calcium, egg yolk has vitamin D.

Okay I'll just do that. Should I try mixing it into some yogurt?
