So I have a bantam silkie mixed with Plymouth Rock egg I belive this is day 20 and I hear the chick making big strong cheap noises when I pick up the egg. I do have a silke chickens sitting in it. Our eggs have thick shells and I’m worried the chick won’t be able to crack open the egg. Should I help it or just leave it or is there something I can do to help it hatch

Leave it!!!! xxx

If you mess with it, especially if it's only day 20, you are likely to do more harm than good. It probably hasn't absorbed all its yolk yet. It's so difficult when we worry so much but your broody knows what she's up to, leave her to it. If you keep messing with the egg, you may well ruin any chance it has of hatching. If it is making big strong cheeping noises, then it is alive and healthy and talking to its mama so give it a chance to do its thing xxxx

:goodpost:They all make a loud peeping noise after PIP totally normal. That encourages everyone to start PIPing. Wont be long now you will have :jumpy.

Cheeping starts after internal pip..
...it can take up to 24 hours for the external pip....
.....and up to another 24 hours for zip and hatch.

So leave them be, don't handle the eggs,
just let mama and chickie babies do what they knows is best.
