Hi My name is Karen and I live in NC. I have around 54 or so Chickens- Australorps, RIR's, Jersey giants, a couple of Buff Orpingtons, Ameracauna's, Silkies, and a new shipment of Porcelain D'Uccle chicks. I need some help with the D'uccle chicks!!!!
I received the shipment of 18 chicks yesterday, there were an extra 3 in the shipment.
3 were DOA and the rest looked ok, then a few more started to crash after I got them home. I raced around trying to get some warm water for them to get started on drinking and also some liquified feed that I placed on a paper towel in the brooder. I tried to get everybody drinking and eating but a few more died. I kept checking them during the rest of the day and they seemed fine, hoppng around drinking and eating. I get up this am and half are dead with 3 more on the way. How do I keep the rest of them alive??? They are actively eating and drinking and seem pretty perky. What causes them to crash like that?

Hello and welcome....so glad you joined BYC

I sorry your chicks are dying but I dont have an answer for you. Please post this in the Emergencies section. There are people there that are very experienced in just this kind of stuff and will know how to help in a flash. Just click on the brown Forum tab at the top then "Raising Backyard chickens" then "Emergencies, Diseases, Injuries"

Good luck to you, I hope you find an answer

! Great to have you with us! Really sorry to hear about all those chicks dying. I wonder if they were in the mail system for too long. One way or the other I'd try to get satisfaction from the hatchery you ordered them from in the form of replacement chicks!! Other than that, I agree with the advice of DDNONIN - good luck to you - hope the rest pull through.
