I just had one of my chicks born in my incubator with what looks like the egg yolk attached and hanging from it. I am not sure if that is what it is or what to do about it.Anyone have any ideas?
So sorry i really dont know anything about baby chooks. Do you think you can remove it? Either way I would imagine you would need to as she can't lug it around. Hope someone with experience will help you soon
That is unabsorbed yolk. If the chick is kept in the incubator and the yolk is kept moist, it will continue to absorb. Some folks have had luck tying it off and clipping it off. I did it once and the chick eventually expired. The extra yolk mean the chick hatched before it was ready. You have to keep the yolk sack moist and keep it from breaking.
Thanks nurse turtle, I thought it was the yolk but was not sure. I kept an eye on it and it had absorbed most of it so far. The chick seems to be ok. Thanks again.
