Have a rooster that is often rough with the hens and sometimes nasty to us- when he's in the coop. When free ranged... alone... he acts just fine like a docile rooster. It's too tricky here in Maine to free range all the time without accidents. How are some ways to try different techniques? I know it's a shot in the dark. He may have no potential. But not being fully matured... can I turn him around?

What breed? Try with a water bottle.. it will probably discourage him!

He's the one I have in the selling thread. If I can't find him a home, I'd like to tame him better. The water bottle sounds like a good idea. I may try it. Thank you! :)

I have an aggressive rooster that doesn't run at me, but does spur me if I get close to him. I tried the spray bottle, and it works great for deterring him in a nonviolent way.
As for him being rough with your hens, the only option is to get him more hens, or separate him. If he's good with other roosters, you could give him one or two rooster companions.
