I had a barred rock hen that lost her barring after a molt. I think it's pretty normal. she was a "pure bred" according to the breeder I got her from but that doesn't mean much with out papers. Her bars came back later. I'm not sure about your hens ancestry but it's not unheard of for the barring to fade out after a molt and return later.no, not sad. She is a very big healthy girl. Good egg layer. Just wondered if this is normal or another cross most likely.
She's still got barring, it's just very faint. Other pattern/color genes, like gold base color, can produce a faded look to the barring. So it is very typical of mixes. To see just how faded barring can be, even in purebreds, just look at Legbar hens. Their barring is so faint it can be hard to tell they are barred at all.no, not sad. She is a very big healthy girl. Good egg layer. Just wondered if this is normal or another cross most likely.
