need help trying to figure out how to install corrugated metal roof on my new coop. I live in TN, so the winters are cold, down in the teens. Is a metal roof good enough for warmth?
I will have 2x4s running across the roof for support. I have an angled roof that is lower in the back. So my questions are: do i need to use plywood then have the metal roof screwed down to that or can i just use the metal roof? If i do need to use the plywood base, do i need to use tarpaper under the metal roof? If you use a metal roof, how do you keep critters from getting in the gaps on the roofing? Do you have to use any other kind of metal on the frame of the roof to protect the frame? I clearly need help on this...

Metal will form condensation and drip. I put CDX on my roof before the tin, but it's a personal choice.
For $10 a sheet, it was a minimal expence.

Others don't. If you don't, add purlins across the 2x4's to fasten the tin to.

Go on Youtube. Lots of helpful vids.
I did add tar paper, but it really isn't needed. I happened to have a partial roll, so no added cost.

They make trim pieces to cover the ends.

We just roofed our coop over the weekend... we had rafters, followed by plywood, then tar paper and then the metal. I don't think you want the metal right on the plywood - between condensation from the metal and small areas of moisture penetration where the screw holes will be, I'd think you need something in between the two.

I should have added - our roof is insulated (it gets super cold here) and we don't have any gaps at the rafters to worry about predators. We added other ventilation and sealed everything off at the roof since we can get some vicious winter storms here. But if you do have some open spaces, you could use hardware cloth to keep predators out. I think you could do a search on this forum and find a lot of tips for that.

Lots of folks will tell you that condensation is a problem. I live in SC. Plenty of humidity here and I have no condensation problems in my coop or my shed.

Looks like yours has open sides. That would definitely make a difference.
Yes, that's the shed. The coop is fully enclosed, but has plenty of ventilation. I've been told that it doesn't get cold enough here for condensation to be a problem. If that was the case, then my bathroom mirror would never fog up when I take a shower.
