Need help with tin roof...not sure how to do it

I wasn't. I was talking about the science behind condensation. In another thread about tin roof construction, someone told me it doesn't get cold enough down here for condensation to be a problem. "Cold" doesn't matter. Temperature differential does.

As long as your coop has good ventilation, there shouldn't be enough moisture to be a problem. The only condensation I have is in my heated shop, where in some places there is a sheet of metal between the -30 outside and the +65~ inside. Your coop will most likely not be 65 degrees inside, so condensation will not be a problem.

I will have 2x4s running across the roof for support. I have an angled roof that is lower in the back. So my questions are: do i need to use plywood then have the metal roof screwed down to that or can i just use the metal roof? If i do need to use the plywood base, do i need to use tarpaper under the metal roof?

I used a sheet of plywood over the rafters and then screwed the metal roofing directly to that. This helps to keep critters out. You can put down tar paper if you want to. I painted the plywood to seal out moisture.

If you use a metal roof, how do you keep critters from getting in the gaps on the roofing?

Use a couple of closure strips (sold @ Lowes) to close the gaps on the end. The plywood, however, will most likely do a good job of keeping them out. The plywood will create a closure of it own.

Do you have to use any other kind of metal on the frame of the roof to protect the frame?

You can buy metal trim pieces to trim out around the roof panels. I didn't use any of them though.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

need help trying to figure out how to install corrugated metal roof on my new coop. I live in TN, so the winters are cold, down in the teens. Is a metal roof good enough for warmth?

As to warmth... all of my coops have metal roofs.

As to plywood or not... I think it depends on the strength of the frame as well as the angle of the roof.

My duck coop I built the roof frame with terrible slightly rotted lumber, and no plywood. But I made it very steep. As a result, it is just fine!

Plywood will help connect the frame together and stabilize the build.

But... clearly , you can go either way.

Just remember if the roof has to hold a load, or stand up to strong wind... make it stronger... or steeper.
